The healing of the Syro-phoenician woman's daughter

HEALING OF THE SYRO-PHOENICIAN WOMAN’S DAUGHTER
The story of the healing of the Syro-Phoenician woman’s daughter was recorded by both Mark and Matthew. The two agree that the incident took place in the region of Tyre and Sidon.

Jesus went there and according to Mark, Jesus entered a house and did not want anyone to know but his plan back-fired.

There was a woman in the town whose daughter was possessed by unclean spirits. When she heard that Jesus had come to town she came and laid at his feet and begged Jesus to cast away the spirit from her child. According to Matthew, Jesus initially ignored the woman till the disciples implored him to send the woman away because she was disturbing them.

Jesus told the woman to allow the children to eat first because it is not good for the children’s food to be given to the dogs, referring to the Gentiles. The woman also replied Jesus and said that while the children eat, the dogs which hover around the table also get to eat the crumbs that fall on the floor. Upon hearing this, Jesus told the woman to go home because her prayers had been answered and the child was healed. According to Matthew, Jesus praised the woman for her great faith by saying “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done as you have desired.”

When the woman got home, she saw her daughter lying in bed. The demon had left her and she was completely healed.
